100 DAYS BIRTHDAY

With more ethnically mixed couples and the UK population being less religious in general, many parents choose to celebrate the birth of their baby by having a 100-day celebration.

I'm finding many parents also wish to mark this special day with images too, much like parents do with 1st Birthday sessions. Babies are so adorable at this age, I love to capture their gummy smiles and chubby arms and legs. During sessions siblings and parents are actively encouraged to put themselves in the picture too!

The 100 Day Birthday Celebration is a tradition that started in Korea many years ago when the survival rate for babies was very low. This poor survival rate was mainly due to lack of medical information, poor hygiene, disease, add to that harsh winters and humid summers. To protect their newborns and give them the best chance of survival parents didn’t take their newborns outside until 100 days after their birth.

From Korea, it then spread to Hong Kong, China and then hit the UK and from there spread to Canada and the US.

Another advantage of the 100 day birthday is that Mum’s will have recovered from the birth and your little one will be in more of a routine and can be awake for some of the party to enjoy it.

The format of the celebration can be either an informal gathering at home or some parents opt for a more formal event at a catered venue.

Gits can range from cash to more traditional baby gifts. Cards can be standard birthday cards as this is a birthday celebration.

When planning your 100-day party for your little one you don’t need to explain much other than it’s a party to celebrate the arrival of your baby and a fabulous occasion to introduce everyone to the special little person in your life!
